Current Activities – October 2011

In October 2011 Secretariat for social protection continued with the activities envisaged in the Action Plan.

At the beginning of the month the evidence has been conducted of the families who live at Belvil informal settlement. There we found people who had already had contracts signed for using mobile housing units after the relocation of Gazela settlement.

Representatives of the Secretariat collected relevant documentation required for signing of contracts for using mobile housing units on a daily basis. Ten such contracts were signed in October.

They met with the representatives of all five newly established settlements weekly, paid regular visits and talked to relocated citizens in order to resolve any current problems as quickly as possible.

In reaction to citizens’ complaints about the water quality at Varos settlement in Mladenovac, the Secretariat had the Institute for Public Health test the water. It has been found that the water itself is of good quality, but bacteria have been found on the water taps as result of poor hygiene.

One Roma woman was helped in finding a Roma family in Belvil and a mother with children was helped to relocate to Maternal Home at Zvecanska St.

Apart from this, adult writing courses were continued, as well as children activities aimed at education through socializing, sightseeing and vocational education. Thus, the children who attend school regularly had a chance to see play Strange love at Dusko Radovic Children’s Theatre, animated movie Smurfs at Dom omladine and movie Oceans at Roda Cinemaplex. For purpose of quick socialization and inclusion of children a visit to training sessions of Soccer teams Red Star and Partizan has been organized.
