University of Arts

The beginnings of contemporary and continued education of artists to the highest degrees of education in Serbia are marked by the foundation of the relevant higher education institutions – the Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts (in 1937), as well as of the Academy of Applied Arts and the Academy of Theatrical Arts (after the Second World War).

In 1947, the Art Academy in Belgrade was founded to bring together the existing Academies. In 1973, the existing Academies changed their respective names into the Faculty of Music Arts, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Applied Arts, and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, while the Art Academy became the University of Arts.

Nowadays, about 1.800 students and 240 graduates study at the University of Arts. Up to now, about 8.500 students have graduated and about 1.700 graduates have won master’s degrees. The University employs 420 university teachers and lecturers, and 28 of them have won doctor’s degrees.
