Belgrade is characterized by strong economic activity, development potential, as well as following trends in the domain of innovations. From tourism and catering to IT industry, Belgrade is a city which is being developed in all the economy branches and it represents attractive investment destination.
Building industry
Building industry has a prominent place in the economy of Belgrade.
The most part of the building potential of Serbia is located in Belgrade: 90% in project designing, 70% in building construction, around 70% in erection work and finishings and around 40 % in low construction.
Industry and mining
In the total economy of Belgrade mining has the share of 8.1 %, wood processing industry 45.1 %, production of electricity, steam and hot water and air-conditioning 46.8%, while the total area covered by industrial zone is 1983.12 hа, with usable space of 908.77 hа.
Agriculture, forestry and water management
The Belgrade area has especially favorable conditions for a modern agricultural production (climate, agricultural land, water flows, developed processing industry).
This branch of economy has a strategic importance for provision of Belgrade with food products, along with the abundant resources of the wider surroundings (Vojvodina and Šumadija). Belgrade region has a significant land potential of about 322.292 ha of agricultural land, which makes 70% of the total area of Belgrade.
Primary strategic commitment of Belgrade is balanced development of transport system, based on the principles of sustainable mobility and changes in the hierarchy of distinct types of transport.
Transport SMART plan of Belgrade
During 2017 SMART master plan of public transport infrastructure was prepared as the basis for traffic development of Belgrade. The SMART plan represents key strategic document which defines priorities, activities and steps to be taken in the years to follow through traffic development directions in the city.
Integrated railway traffic system of Belgrade
Focus of the SMART plan is, above all, put on strengthening the operations of BG train and the metro project, while special attention is paid to these types of mass transport, since the results clearly show the importance of future investment into public transport system. These investments must be oriented towards the improvement of suburban railway system, in order to upgrade success achieved by the system since its introduction in 2011 until today.
Road infrastructure
To secure uninterrupted development and follow the needs of its citizens and investor requirements for better infrastructure, Belgrade has initiated great investment on multiple fronts. The most key areas are the construction of road infrastructure, which implies bypass roads, railway infrastructure (new main stations), new bus stations, metro and airport.
North Tangent Road (SMT)
In cooperation with Chinese partner the construction of the northern part of outer Belgrade tangent road. The project includes the construction of several new road sections, as well as reconstruction of several existing, in order to close traffic ring around the city and achieve better communication among citizens.
Inner Semi Ring Road (UMP)
To unload the burden of unnecessary transit traffic, the construction of three ring roads around the city is ongoing, and plans exist for the construction of two more bridges and two tunnels. Bypass, i.e., outer Ring Road around the city is in its final stages – Inner Semi Ring, so called SMT, upon opening of Pupin bridge and its continuation to Pancevo road and new boulevard Heroja sa Kosara which connects Ada bridge with Tosin bunar and continues towards Rakovica.
New main railway station Beograd (Prokop)
This is the project which represents the finalization of the construction of Belgrade Railway Junction, started as far back as in the 1970’s. Until now the investment has been over 1.3 billion EUR, and another 200 million EUR is required in order to bring the project to its completion. New station is designed as future junction for 50 million passengers on annual level.
Complex Block 42 ‒ railway station Novi Beograd and main bus station
Along with dislocation of the infrastructure from the city center, there is also a need for reconstruction of current station Novi Beograd and its adaptation to current city development. New main bus station should take intercity buses out of the center of Belgrade, to a location which is by its infrastructure well-connected to all parts of the city. In terms of dislocation, there are also plans for another smaller station at the location Autokomanda.
Commerce is a significant economy branch at the territory of the city of Belgrade. Trade sector in Belgrade in the last ten years has achieved extremely rapid growth, faster when compared to actual growth of other economy branches in the domain of production. Thus, trade sector has become the one with most share in the economy of Belgrade and it has great share in trading and total economy of the Republic of Serbia. In the total trading of the Republic of Serbia, trade sector of Belgrade has a share of over 30 %.

Brokers
Belgrade Stock Exchange
The development of the Stock Exchange enabled the building of the Exchange own offices, with a view to providing required and contemporary working conditions, adequate space, new technical opportunities, the usage of modern means of communication, laboratories, functioning of the Exchange court and the like. In 1934 the Exchange moved into the new building on Kraljev trg no 13. The turnover increased, the business results were better, each day the Exchange was visited by 100-150 persons and the quotations were printed in one thousand copes in three languages.
Since 2015. Belgrade Stock Exchange became even more active in motivating Serbian companies to finance their business by IPO, which resulted at the beginning of 2018 in launching of the “Serbia: IPO Go!” project, and in listing first shares from IPO in the Serbian capital market after eight decades.
Insurance and reinsurance
Insurance is one form of risk management, primarily directed towards a decrease of financial losses. Insurance is a risk transfer from the insured to the insurance company, with the payment of insurance premium. The entity which provides insurance is known as insurer, the insurance company, insurance bearer or patron. A person or entity who buys insurance is known as the insured party or insurance contractor. Insurance implies that the insured overtakes warrantied and known, relatively small loss in terms of payment to the insurance company in exchange for a promise of insurer to reimburse the insured in case of the covered loss. The loss may or may not be financial, but it must be brought down to financial conditions, and it usually entails something in which the insured has secured interest established by owning, property or already existing relationship.
Commercial banks
Commercial bank is an organization which provides financial services for a profit. Traditional banking services include receiving money deposits, processing of money transactions and loan services. Many banks offer financial support to firms, industrial and other types of companies and corporations, as well as to physical entities, with a view of increasing their profit.
