“Beogradske elektrane” is the first company in Serbia which in the process of producing heating energy uses renewable energy sources.
As far back as 1959 started the construction of the first temporary generation plant in block B (with the capacity of 37 МW) in order to meet heating energy demands of newly built residential and public facilities in Novi Beograd and the company founded was “Toplane”.

Environment protection is one of the priorities of business policy of the public utility company “Beogradske elektrane”. Consistent application of the Boiler Room Shutdown Program and connecting facilities to the District Heating System eliminate all pollution aspects which are naturally generated by heating sources: emission into air, water, soil pollution and waste generation.

Into modernizing and reconstruction of the District Heating System in Belgrade in the last eight years more than 80 million EUR was invested.
Many kilometers of hot water network have been reconstructed and built thanks to the loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development of 20 million EUR, funds from German KfW development bank, from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida, money from the budget of the Belgrade City Assembly and funds of “Beogradske elektrane”.
