Received Decorations
LEGION OF HONOUR
Conferred on Belgrade on December 21, 1920. Established by Napoleon Bonaparte on May 19, 1802. It is the highest decoration of France, and it has five degrees. This decoration was awarded to Belgrade by the French marshal Franchet d' Esperey. Beside Belgrade, only two more cities outside France have this decoration: Liege (Belgium) and Luxembourg (Luxembourg).
WAR CROSS
Belgrade was awarded this decoration on October 8, 1925. It was established by the Provisional Government of Czechoslovakia in Paris, on November 7, 1918 as the highest decoration of a single degree. It has been awarded for bravery and courage in fighting enemy and for heroic deeds in the struggle for independence in 1914-1918.
KARAĐORĐE'S STAR WITH SWORDS
Awarded to Belgrade on May 18, 1939. Established in four degrees on January 1, 1904 by King Petar I. The decoration group with swords, for war merits, was introduced by the Decree of October 20, 1912. The Minister of Army and Navy, the army general Milutin Nedić, as emissary of H.M. King Petar II, handed over this highest war decoration to the President of the Belgrade Municipality, Mr Vlada Ilić, at the Ascension Day celebration.
ORDER OF NATIONAL HERO
Awarded to Belgrade on October 20, 1974. Established in one degree, on August 15, 1943, as a decoration for individuals which have gained the status of the National Hero, having been introduced some time earlier. The sketch was made by Đorđe Andrejević Kun, and plastic design by Antun Augustinčić.
