Exceptional Experience in PMU and PIU Support

COWI, has wide ranging experience from managing a number of projects with assistance to PMUs and PIUs. In connection with the Towns and Schools for Democracy Programme in Serbia, COWI managed successfully the setting up of a PMU located in Belgrade to manage more than 250 projects in the 160 municipalities. The support provided included development of project planning and management systems, contract documents, definition of monitoring requirements, design of reporting formats and detailed guidelines to municipalities and monitors.

Experience from the support to the PMU in the Ministry of Transport in Latvia (1998-2000) should be specially emphasised. This PMU managed a sizable project portfolio and a number of PIUs with supervising responsibility for project identification, programming, preparation, procurement and implementation of contracts for Services, Supplies, and Works in accordance with EU Phare and ISPA procedures.

COWI’s recent projects providing support to the PIU in the Belgrade Water Company under the Municipal Infrastructure Reconstruction Programme and a project providing management and supervision support to the PIU in the Nis Water Company has also provided the Consultant with specific PIU experience in Belgrade and Serbia.
