The Municipality of Zvezdara covers an area of 3,165 hectares, which is inhabited by a population of around 150,000.

On a hill of the former Greater Vračar an astronomic observatory was erected in 1932, called “Zvezdarnica”, after which this area and, later on, the municipality as well got its name. After the abolition of urban regions in 1952, the territory of the Municipality of Zvezdara was divided into Old Đeram and Zvezdara, and, in 1960, those two municipalities were amalgamated into the present-day Municipality.

The patron day of the Municipality of Zvezdara is the Visitation of the Virgin, on February 15.
